in may of 2019 at the age of 28 professional skateboarder ben raemers took his own life, for anyone in the world of skateboarding who knew ben they will understand how joyful, inspirational and iconic he was. truly a unique character who is greatly missed and who’s time on this planet will not be forgotten.
a few months on in october the ben raemers foundation was founded, with the aim of providing a way to maintain bens legacy whilst also helping to prevent anymore loss to suicide. since launching they have hosted fundraising events, skate jams, live q and a’s and open conversations with trained professionals. they have also produced a series of videos called SMile films which feature professional skateboarders speaking honestly on their own personal experiences with mental health.
their website has plenty of content to help raise awareness of mental health issues and also multiple tools to help with your own. the benraemers foundation truly is doing amazing work within the skateboard community and also for normalising talking about mental health. support an amazing charity for an important cause and cop one of our tees.
